The Office Apprentice
Do you fancy yourself as the next Michael Cane? Or think you could be the next Stephen Spielberg? If yes, then The Office Apprentice challenge is for you! However before you quit the day job just remember that everyone starts at the bottom. A new shopping channel on cable are recruiting teams of actors, cameramen and production staff to create a series of TV ads. Obviously it is unlikely that you will become the next Michael Cane, but if you think you could be the next Barry Scott (famous for great products such as Cillit Bang), then read on.
How it works
Teams are given a tight time schedule to create a three minute long TV advert from scratch! In their teams they are required to write film and star in the commercial. To complete this challenge successfully teams will need to work well under pressure and possess a wide range of skills from live broadcast presenting to stage management and production. To add a little extra challenge to this event, each team will be given a limited budget with which they must pay for all aspects of the challenge. Do you spend your entire budget on a professional editing team, while cutting costs making your own costumes? Or buy the full array of costumes and lighting while using a handheld camcorder to record your add? Equipment suppliers such as the costume department may be open to bribes, favours and sneaky golden handshakes. However in return they may require teams to complete small challenges, so teams will need their negotiating hats on! This challenge requires a great deal of strategic decision making, excellent team work, and original thinking. Teams will tests their wits against each other to produce the best advert in the time available. These adverts will then be presented to a panel of expert judges to decide the winner. It’s dog-eat-dog in the world of showbiz!.
